English men left reeling by the national side flopping in the FIFA World Cup 2010 are trying their hand at online dating, according to leading UK dating website Singles365.
Online Dating Registrations Boom
Singles365 says that within just 32 minutes of the final whistle going in England's 4-1 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Germany, men were flocking to the site to sign up – possibly due to the fact they're going to have slightly more time on their hands than they were hoping for this summer!
In a June 30, 2010 press release entitled "Men Flock to Online Dating as World Cup Dreams are Dashed," the company says that registrations from single men boomed with traffic to the site up over 134% compared to the previous Sunday – and up over 187% on the week.
Summer Entertainment for Men
The company says the trend has shown no sign in abating – with thousands more men than usual joining the site the week after the fateful game, as they switch off their TV sets and go online, leaving the rest of the world to concentrate on the football.
In the press release, Katie Mowe from Singles365.com said, "We were genuinely stunned to see how many men registered on the site straight after the game – perhaps they were spurred on by a little Dutch courage! Our message to all the single ladies out there who are looking for a date is strike whilst the iron is hot – the football season will be start again in less than two months!”
Singles Interested Now Football's Finished

It remains to be seen whether this boom in single men interested in meeting single ladies on the internet will last – or indeed make it past the start of the premier league at the end of the summer (for the single men interested in how much time they have – Chelsea begin the defence of their Premier League title against West Brom at home on August 14, 2010 – other games include Liverpool vs Arsenal and Tottenham vs Man City.) but for now the phrase "there's plenty more fish in the sea' seemingly has never been so apt – albeit some slightly glum-looking, irritable fish with a bee in their bonnet about 4-4-2 and whether Rooney was fit to play ...
